Are the two words that I will attach to every sub along with a 5-star vote. I know that the writing is actually crap, but I am hoping to induce others to give me 5 stars and opine that my sub is excellently brilliantish. Just an idea.

A good idea in theory Rikkor, but for it to work in practice you'd have to actually sub something.

True.

Christ you need a thick skin to put anything on here.
I know I'm new to this but I thought the idea of these forums was to support other writers. The back biting to help ratio is running about 2 to 1 as far as I can see. Sometimes ideas are bad, sometimes the tone is misjudged but that's the point feed back isn't it?
I was going to write something nice about one of your subs Rikkor but I can't seem to find any. (I'm not being sarcastic. I genuinely can't)
My batting average is screwed now isn't it?

Corrigan, don't fret about it, we're a big happy family really. Mostly children, of course, with an untamed German Shepherd Dog nipping everyone's heels from time to time (fortunately living in the good ol' US of A), and a couple of drunken uncles chipping in occasionally, and a mad auntie to entertain and annoy us. And there's also the transvestite.
So, keep up the good work, and try to to do better than my own few tickers. Remember, the Editor makes the decisions; the rest is just good clean fun.

I think people generally are quite supportive here at the moment. Possibly a little too supportive for Rikkor's tastes by the looks of things.
Not sure how my comment came across but I wasn't having a pop at Rikkor, I was hoping he'd sub something so I could go and give it 5* and say "Excellent and brilliant", but that's because I'm easily amused.

My "excellent" and "like it" regime is entirely sincere.
I tend not to bother with established, successful contributors, or with submissions that have already attracted lots of praise, but generally I try to comment on anything that made me smile (like it) or laugh (excellent).
"Like it" used to be 4 stars, and "Excellent" 5 stars, but I'm giving 5 stars for anything I like now, because that's the currency. To give 4 would be faint praise in the current climate.

Fair play. Just feeling a bit sensitive. It wasn't a plea for comments or stars by the way. People are pretty supportive in fairness.
I'll try to stem the gushing Rikkor and Golgo1.
Now feel free to put the boot in you ruthless bastards :)

This is the point where the offender tearily withdraws his barbed comments and the love-fest begins.

You're right there Corrigan old beast. I've said it before and I'll damned well say it again that comedians are comedians' worst critics.
You'll get the whole gamut of responses here (if any) from outright praise and support to downright abuse and vitriol. Nobody writes stuff that everybody likes so expect some negatives along the way.
Those clever bastards who write good quality, well constructed stuff time and again will always win through and most of those are WoMs or WoMs in the making (yes, you Wayland).
But those few creamy floaters are the exception. I'm one of those people who has rare bursts of funny and long periods of blank head scratching and I've learned not to post unless I'm really happy with it. Some others post all their fleeting thoughts and hope for the best, which is a high risk strategy. Each to their own, but each approach comes with its own level of abuse / praise / deafening silence.
Do what works best for you and try not to get upset by other peoples' comments. There are some who poke at you for fun because they're naughty scamps who like a wind up, some poke at you because they're bastards; and some poke at you because they're jealous of your ability.
If it all gets too much, have a flounce and then everyone will tell you they love you. It's worked for me more than once.

I am enjoying the comments much more then the subs nowadays.
