In a surprise admission today, David Cameron admitted that the hiring of Andy Coulson was regrettable, but claimed that it had been forced upon him by the equality and diversity agenda.
'Put simply, there weren't enough prats from Essex in government this time round, and I needed to find one in a hurry. Once I discovered Coulson was from Billericay it was a done deal.'
A furious Cameron refused to apologise for Coulson's appointment, telling Ed Miliband 'It was Coulson or Oliver Letwin. And you want me to say I made a mistake? Really?'
