Worthy of its own thread, it seems that some of our number are available for some post-work beerage on Weds 17th August in London Town. Only pre-approved members of the clique are welcome, but you may submit your application by swallowing a live turtle or pulling a moon at the phone-hacking inquiry. 'Twould be lovely to see Biscuits new and old, I might even have a little drinkie myself.

Having sworn never to venture north of the A303 ever again in my life, I found myself travelling back from Leeds on Monday. Some bastard topped themselves at Wimbledon, so the Salisbury train was cancelled and I was stuck in bloody Clapham Junction for ages. The screens all went blank and all the station staff instantly evapourated. Then the train I jumped on to Basingrad stopped short to allow my connection to leave first. The connection being the train from Waterloo that shot straight past me an hour previously.
As I live in a lovely old pub in a lovely old village, I do not intend to venture more than four miles away again.
You are all welcome to have a drink down here but will be expected to make your own transport arrangements. How, and why, do people still live in London?

Why do people live in London? Perhaps they just can't get the f**k out. Yesterday, some bloke jumped under a train at Hayes & Harlington - which I can sort of relate to - and nothing moved out of Paddington for something like three hours. Then it trundled at about 15 mph towards Reading, probably occasioning a few more suicidal feelings, before they stopped it and turned it around at Worcester to go back. Friggin' eight hour journey all because of some selfish, thoughtless depressive in Hayes & Harlington.

I trust you'll set those magnificent man bosoms off to their best advantage, Al - what a jolly occasion this is shaping up to be. Shall we convene at Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese again as everyone knows it and it's cheap and cheerful? I can get there for about 6.30ish, I expect a drink in my hand by 6.29.
There's a chance me and MrsP might book a last minute holiday around then, but if I am in London I'd love to join you all. And for any first timers make sure you check with Mary which part of the pub they'll be in as the place is a maze. Add to that you don't know what any of these people look like and you will realise the fun I had at the last drinks. Was well worth it in the end. So be there or be square.

I take it poor people aren't invited? And, as Andy Hamilton wrote, last time I went to the big city two guys hauled me into an alley, beat me up, nicked my wallet, stabbed me with my mobile phone and when I complained said "you country folk just don't understand our city ways." Have a pint of Futtock's Old Dirigible for me, though.

Has the strapline 'An interesting Georgian town' . I take the view if they have to tell you its interesting it's probably not. Pleasant, but not interesting apart from the brewery.
BTW us country folk have our own travel delays-usually the world's most languid cows strolling across the roads, but always remembering to stop and graze nonchalantly at several points during the crossing, probably wondering whether to make a break for freedom. Happily the unravelling and knotty single piece of bailer twine seems to usually hold them back, although one did try to mate with a car my daughter was in once.
After a while you get to know the twice daily milking times on the various farms and change your journey timings accordingly.

Ah - a native! I can indeed confirm writinginbsl that there is precisely nothing interesting about Blandford, although I endeavoured to make it rather more so during my 18 years of residence. The things I could tell you about the happenings around the Kwik Save Bridge would make your hair curl. Happy days.

Would love to join you guys but London mid-week isn't really an option for me.
Maybe next time there is a weekend Biscuit gathering I'll be able to make it and indulge my old hobby of getting pissed and embarrassing myself in front of people I don't know.

You'd never catch me being pissed and embarrassing. I wish someone would catch me occasionally though; I get some terrible bruises from those hard pub floors.

Writingbsl: Sturrr? Well, swipe me! I went to the dentist there only last week. 'phoned the NHS one in Shaftesbury and they said "2012". The private one said "£920" and the pretty girl in Sturr said "see you on Friday". Mind you the tooth fell out yesterday.

@Oxy. They stopped all the trains due to a "suspected fatality". FFS! Presumably they had to close the line so they could find all the bits before awarding South East Trains a kill.
I was told that there is a bridge in Wimbledon where the track dips so you can see the train from a distance and time your dive perfectly. Happens about 3 times a month and inconveniences thousands of people. They should fit bull pushers on the front of the train.
My other 'arf, got all pissed off with me when I expressed this sentiment. Women, eh!
BTW. I once knew a suicidal train fan. He threw himself under a steam train and was chuffed to bits.
