Greens claim reduction in European aircraft flights has resulted in cleaner air, but in future will insist that volcanoes must have pronounceable names that roll easily off newscasters tongues, such as Etna, Fuji or even Popocatapetl. "Vesuvius" should be a last resort as it does not sound good with an Icelandic accent.
An Icelandic Green spokesperson said "We should not be referring to "A volcano in the South-East of Iceland" simply because few people in the world know how to pronounce the volcano's name correctly, although most Icelanders will accept "A volcano in the South-East of Iceland" as a truncated version, because few of them had previously heard of it, and its real name is much longer. Anyway it is probably more accurate. Our frozen foods remain unaffected."
