'Just chopping his cock off was too good for him', seethed Cheng Chun-mei, wife of play-away husband Shui-bian, as reporters gathered to see her being led away from court in Chubei, Hsinchu county, Taiwan, where she is standing trial for attacking and emasculating her husband in his sleep.
The court was told how 38-year-old Cheng Shui-bian, who had recently lost his job at an electronics factory, called for help after waking up covered in blood and discovering he had a crudely fashioned, yet functioning set of female genitalia and a set of firm D-cup breasts. His wife, who has admitted administering the full sex change in a fit of rage following the discovery of his visits to hostess bars in near-by Hsinchu City, had left for work.
'I woke up and went to the bathroom, but my [penis and testicles] had gone!' explained Shui-bian. 'Then I noticed the breasts. I thought I was still asleep, so I pinched myself. I was astonished.'
Not having access to surgical instruments, Chun-mei (36) performed the gender reassignment procedure with whatever she could find in the kitchen.
Medical experts say that her vaginaplasty technique was similar to what is known as “the Wilson Method”, which is initially performed like a traditional penile inversion, until the vaginal-vault creation step, in which the vault of the vagina is left unfinished, as a raw surface, then lined with a skin graft harvested from the buttocks. The penile skin is used to create the labia minora, clitoral hooding, and the anterior fourchette (frenulum); the glans penis is used to create the clitoris, and the scrotum is used to create the labia majora.
For the breast implants, she used tennis balls wrapped in socks, inserted via incisions made under each arm-pit.
His wife's frenzied attack also included a fast-track hormone therapy course, which had feminised his curves, reduced body hair and raised his voice, but the court heard that this was only the culmination of a campaign of emasculation which had included:
• Holding up jumpers against him in shops
• Passing money to him to buy drinks in full view of the bar staff
• Asking him to hold her handbag ‘for a second’
• Making him return a ‘Sex and the City’ DVD to the rental place
• Adjusting his tie in public while tutting
• Telling him off for not wearing ‘that shirt I bought for you’ when his friends came round to play Mahjong.
• Asking a male stranger for directions on a trip to Taipei
While Shui-bian doesn’t deny that he made several visits to the bar where hostesses are known to pour drinks and light cigarettes for clients, he remains tight-lipped on why, after discovering the gender reassignment, he had spent the whole day in bed before calling for an ambulance.
The trial continues tomorrow.
