Pastor Brian Parsley, preacher at the First Faithful Chapel Centre, said last night that the eruption of a volcano in Iceland was 'god's wrath being poured on homosexuals'. 'Homosexuals - or bottomists, as I prefer to call them - are directly responsible for this terrible plight'.
'All the signs are there, said Mr Parsley, What do bottomists often do when they go on holiday? They take a plane.' 'AIDS, a sort of homosexual flu, was spread by planes, throughout the world. What more evidence do we need? This is a wakeup call to Christians everywhere'.
Dr Rowan Williams, Archbishop of Canterbury said: 'I am not certain about this but I think we have to respect everyone's point of view.'
The Roman Catholic church refused to comment.
The head of the church in Wales said: 'What's the problem in Iceland then, like?'
