The Thompsons from Worcester will tomorrow become the first British family ever to use their all-in-one camping kit a second time.
The dramatic breakthrough may lead to a change in the law, which currently prohibits families from repeat use of expensively-bought camping gear as it increases the divorce rate, leading to inappropriate wealth and insufferable smugness in lawyers.
Mrs Betty Thompson said she, her husband and two children had decided to make a stand for a change in the law after being “only slightly traumatised” by their first weekend away using a four-person camping set bought for £99.99 from Halfords.
“We want to strike a blow for other families and free up space in the nation’s overloaded garden sheds,” said Mrs Thompson.
“More men need to be able to imitate Basil Fawlty and thrash tent kits with a branch yelling ‘you vindictive bastard’ while their family’s laughter provokes them to ever greater peaks of rage, without actually committing a crime.
“If we can survive our second weekend away under canvas, it will set an example for others and maybe camping really will one day become an affordable and enjoyable way to have a family holiday.”
Her husband George said his main aim for the family’s second trip was to avoid storming out of the tent in the middle of the night screaming “if those children don’t go to sleep I’m going to spend the night in the car, at least I won’t die of hypothermia in there.”

Great idea, but must be room to shoe-horn some 'canvassing opinion' and 'poles apart' gags in.
