I once sat opposite Malcolm McLaren in the Eurostar lounge. I looked at him. He looked at me. I pretended not to recognise him. He did the same.

I was next to an American golf celeb the other day. It wasn't Tiger Woods, but he was playing. Couldn't be arsed to go looking for him, though.

@cc "I once sat opposite Malcolm McLaren in the Eurostar lounge"
I'm on it myself next week cc - I'll let you know if he's still there. Any message you want passing on?

You could tell him that apparently Country Life tastes ever so creamy.

@dvo tell him I've been having hot geriatric sex with Vivienne Westwood ever since he died

Almost everyone over 50 years old in my local claims to have played pool with James Hunt.
Posted 8 months ago # -
I once played pool against somebody who'd played pool against Jimmy White.

My aunt is buried next to Piers Courage, the racing driver.

I was just leaving a cafe in the centre of Glasgow a few weeks ago when David Moyes (Everton manager) came in. He looked around and sat down, I walked out.

I grew up a few doors down from Paul Usher, our Ba' from Brookside. Though he was much much older than me, I have a vague recollection of an altercation with the front wheel of his chopper for which he received a stern bollocking. I think that wins.

I was in a Mika video. He is an idiot.

A chap I know well recently installed double ( or possibly triple ) glazing for Werder Bremen manager Thomas Schaaf. Schaaf was very polite, but is generally not known for being a chatterbox. I'll update this page as soon as I find out whether it was double or triple-glazing, but you may have to wait until the New Year, assuming he's prepared to divulge the information. Customer-confidence and all that.

Come on Gary, you can't keep us hanging that long.
If he's a mate can't you just call him?Posted 8 months ago # -
His wife is over here at the moment (until Tuesday) so I'm going to press her for the information as soon as I get in tonight. I don't want to pester him over a relatively trivial matter, trivial to him perhaps, but extremely important to everybody else. One thing I did learn is that Schaaf has a massive telly, which I assume he uses to watch football. I'm wondering whether Schaaf signed the windows on a one-year loan, with the option to release them at the end of the season.
Posted 8 months ago # -
That would mean a window transfer in the transfer window.

When I worked in a supermarket in my teens, at christmas time I had a wee next to Father Christmas in the staff bogs.

For my part, I think Schaaf's judgement must be called into question if he has gone for anything less than triple. If the wind is in the east, it can get pretty parky over there . And if I had the money at my disposal I would be going for something with a favourable R-rating , perhaps in excess of 0.60 K•m2/W (2 h•ft2•°F/BTU).

An old friend from school was recently sat behind Sarah Palin on a flight to Alaska. I asked him if he repeatedly kicked her seat, but he's keeping tight lipped for fear of being deported.

Just to trump Gary Stanton, my brother-in-law fitted the doors at Tina Turner's mansion near Zurich.

To continue the windows theme: spent one long vac from uni selling double-glazing door-to-door (the horror). Edward Woodward took a leaflet and signed up for an initial appointment then changed his mind.
I only got paid if they went through with it. Still, he was ace in the Wicker Man so I wasn't too annoyed at him.
Posted 8 months ago # -
Edward Woodward wouldn't?

I can confirm that Schaaf opted for double-glazing, but was not satisfied with some of the work and has called our friend back. Schaff requested him specifically which is no small compliment. I was also informed that Schaaf's daughter is "sehr nett" (very nice).

Right Jeni, I'm gonna top that.
Just found out last night that a mate (not posh at all) gatecrashed a party with the soon to be Princess Diana. He tried to chat her up but said she was a "Stuck up Cow".
Oh, and Isla St Claire was in the same restaurant as Alan Moore with another mate serving. Aparently Isla said "Is that Alan Moore?" and when they told him he said"OMG, Isla St Claire!", apparently he is a big fan of hers. Honest, you can't make this stuff up.
There must be a link to Haile Salsie there somewhere.

"Stuck up cow" = "must be a lesbian" = "smells of fish" = She said 'no' then?
Posted 7 months ago # -
Serves her right. If she had gone with Quaz's mate, she'd probably be alive today. Just goes to show ...
