It would seem that I was in the same year at school as Andrew Lansley ! Not in the same class, and I don't recall him whatsoever.

While working as a guitar tech for a reasonably successful UK rock band I found myself in the dressing rooms area of the Belgian Graspop festival. Out of the corner of my eye I spotted none other than Biff Byford, lead singer of Saxon, the first band I ever saw live when I was fifteen. So I decided to go over.
"Hi," I said, "I'm working as a guitar tech for one of the bands, and in all honesty I wouldn't be here now if it wasn't for you."
I went on to explain that I'd bought my first electric guitar after seeing his band in Sheffield in 1985 and as a result of that I'd been lucky enough to make a living travelling around the world looking after guitars for the past few years.
"So I just wanted to say cheers and shake your hand," I said.
His reply?
"Who are you?"

Just had Julian Bream in the shop. He hasn't been in for a bit because a dog knocked him over and broke his hip. He is absolutely charming and must be about 80. When I first met him I only recognised him because his nails on one hand were too long to type in his PIN number. (OK I had never heard of him either until I moved back down here where he is a bit of a local celeb.)
He bought a house in the village in the late 60s for £14,500; it sold 5 years ago for over £3m!Posted 1 year ago # -
I have that nice Mr Bream's music on my iPhone...

I've just found out my old Parasitology lecturer, Prof Sandy Trees, is going to be made an actual, proper Lord of the Realm. Fantastic news.

Can't remember if I've already posted this one, and can't be arsed looking, but Heather Ripley (the little girl from "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" used to live along the road from me, and worked in the local supermarket years ago. She was a regular in one of the pubs I worked in, and not at all a 'lovey'.
Mad, hippie, peace-protester yes, but lovey, no.Posted 1 year ago # -
Hmm - the "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" windmill is just down the road from here Jeni. We're almost related

BJ - Julian Bream played (with John Williams) the beautiful music chosen for the theme tune of The Adventure Game on BBC.
Apologies if that makes no sense whatsoever.

I live about 5 minutes away from Pinewood Studios so I have probably had many near encounters with celebrities that I don't know about.

I received a mug from Newsbiscuit's JoF once. Does that count?

I often sit & have a pint next to the "Invisible Man" at our local pub, apparently he is a regular. You can often not see him sitting there.

Hey Devo I'm in Henley, just down the road from Turville too.

Ah Scroat. Is it spring down there yet? We may need to consider chilterns sherberts

Good idea. Despite Brakspears, there is still Loddon. Get two or three other biscuits involved and we could be quorate. Failing that I can be found in a local hostelry on the first Tuesday of the month.

I once pulled up at a zebra crossing to let actor James Mason cross the road.

Had drinks tonight with a guy who's sister owns the hotel where Marc Almond is staying during this summer's Rewind Festival in Scone.

I once saw Marc Almond in Bermondsey Street. Gok Wan lives around here as well.

My parents next door neighbour in the 1980's ran a hotel in Hove. This was the hotel that was used by visiting football teams when they came to play Brighton and Hove Albion. He used to rent the house out to Brighton players, one of whom was a Dutchman called Hans Kraay (who now works in Dutch TV as an analyist). He would often come round for meals with us and we are proud of the fact that we introduced him to custard. He'd never had it before and thought it was delicious.
He was once visited by former Northern Ireland footballer Gerry Armstrong, who scored 3 goals in the 1982 World Cup Finals in Spain.

My Dad was at school in Gillingham with David Frost. They used to walk there together. My Mum was in the same class as fashion designer Zandra Rhodes. She remembers her as this odd little girl who no-one ever spoke to.
I never met either of them nor did I go to school with anyone famous myself.

Sorry seymour, I am very impressed with your introducing Hans Kraay to custard story so I'm afraid that it doesn't fit into this subject at all. Did you also suggest the hilarious jumping up and down in front of the keeper at corners to him? Oh dear, I may have just disclosed my footballing allegiance ...

A friend of a friend's second cousin twice removed knew the man who's wife ran the hotel where once stayed the great neice of the man who held the door open for the sister of the man who once went to the cinema in Scunthorpe that was run by the grandmother of the woman who knew one of the ex-husbands of one of the Beverley Sisters' daughters.

Just found out that a bloke I work with was mates with Stuart Manning. Stuart was in a band at the time, but later went on to play Russ Owen in Hollyoaks between 2004 and 2009. There was a persistant rumour that he was Lulu's toyboy.

I was on a plane a few weeks ago and so was Gordon Brown. He had a window seat, and his wife and kids were sat across the aisle.

Did he recognise you Psyc?
Posted 1 year ago # -
No he didn't look up at all, just kept a newspaper up to his face reading for the whole hour flight. It wasn't the Sun he was reading, I'm sure he's seen plenty of tits in his time anyway.

One Saturday morning back in the late 70's some young kid came knocking on my door asking me if he could join our band. I told him to come back after Tiswas had finished.
He never came back - and the next time I saw him was on Top of the Pops playing the banjo for Dexy's Midnight Runners....Billy Adams
Not coming back was the best thing Billy ever did.
So...I guess that's a 'least impressive moment' in reversePosted 1 year ago #
