Just seen the bad news that Peter Falk has died. He was a great actor and made Columbo a fantastic character. He managed to inject comedy into the role by not taking himself too seriously. He was a talented actor and played many other roles. He will be missed.
RIP Peter Falk

Agreed ant, his portrayal of Columbo was awesome.
I just found out that he got the role of Columbo when Bing Crosby pulled out. The mind boggles ...
Saw quite a few episodes on Japanese TV. Always remember Jack Cassidy smashing up a bar in order to create an alibi. The series was dubbed into Japanese, so when Cassidy said, 'smelly shop,' in Japanese, he obviously meant 'this joint stinks.'
Columbo was by a square mile the best American cop show going.
I just loved the way he made out he was a bungling halfwit lulling the suspect into a false sense of 'that dickhead's never going to get me' before proving he was no dickhead at all by getting his male or female suspect by the end of the show.
'There's something on my mind that is bothering me' is the quote I will always remember from Columbo.
