The rising cost of petrol is 'not Cheryl Cole's fault', according to her agent. There has been UK-wide outrage at spiralling fuel costs for the past 12 months or so, and the finger has been squarely pointed in the Geordie singers direction by angry fuel industry insiders. However, her spokespeople have strenuously denied that Ms Cole, 27, is to blame for the crisis at the pumps.
'To accuse Cheryl is ridiculous' said her agent. 'Cheryl has been in America appearing on their version of ' I've Got the X Factor, Get Me Outta Here Opera Star! ' so how she can be blamed is laughable and downright libelous. In fact, our lawyers are discussing the possiblity of a libel suit right now'.
He continued 'what with the media circus surrounding her and her husband at the moment, this is the last thing that she needs'.
The last 12 months has seen petrol rise to unprecidented costs, and currently a litre of unleaded stands at around £1.30. However, fuel industry insiders have noted how Ms Cole's celebrity profile and earnings have also soared in the past 12 months, leading some to speculate that it is not a coincidence. A spokesman from BP, who wished to remain anonymous, commented that they ( BP ) are convinced Ms Cole is behind the fuel crisis in a coalition with an, as yet, unamed Saudi oil magnate.
Ms Cole, who shot to fame as a member of reality TV group Girls Aloud, was unavailable for comment.
