Father of four Graham Carter from Barnsley says he finds the challenge of his family annual summer holiday increasingly difficult.
'It seems to get harder every year,' Mr Carter (31) said. 'It starts in the New Year when the holiday ads start on the tele and the wife starts getting the holiday brochures out. That's when the depression sets in and I have to start smiling and nodding and pretending I'm keen.'
Mr Carters says that this year his wife Sue has booked a two-week camping holiday in Newquay.
'I wouldn't mind a seaside holiday if we didn't have to spend it on the coast with all that sea and sea air - and then there's the beaches to cope with where you've got to roll your trouser legs up and do paddling and make sand castles. This year we've got the drive down to Cornwall, so that makes the holiday longer because the kids think the car journey is part of what they and the missus call holiday fun so it doesn't end until you get home.
'The hardest part is walking along the promenade with the wife with the kids in the pushchair and having to say how great it is to be on holiday. I keep looking at the sky, hoping for torrential rain, like three years ago.'
Mr Carter says that was the best time he's ever had when a three-week camping holiday in Wales had to be abandoned when the campsite flooded.
'That was right good because we left on Saturday and were home by Sunday night. I'll never forget that holiday and I've still got the holiday photographs of us leaving the campsite in the rain. It were the holiday of a lifetime.'
Mr Carter said he might enjoy the family holiday if he could take some things with him, such as his mates so that he could spend the holiday lunchtimes and evenings in a holiday pub playing darts and having a few holiday pints and a cigar.
Asked what he wished for the most while he was on his family holiday, Mr Carter said, 'That's easy - not being on a family holiday.'
But Sue Carter said she was aware her husband wasn't keen on the seaside summer holiday.
'He doesn't know it yet, but soon as we're back from Newquay, we'll be off on a three week caravan touring holiday of Croatia - it's a little birthday treat surprise we’ve got lined-up for him.’
