The town where Osama Bin Laden hid for a number of years has expressed 'shock and horror' at its discovery that it was twinned with Blackburn in Lancashire.
Villagers in Abbottabad in Pakistan claim they had no idea of the link with Blackburn.
'This is a nice quiet village,' said an Abbottabad resident. 'We have an excellent golf-course and nice people who just want to be left alone. It's a big shock to be associated with Blackburn.'
The villagers believe that the British government kept secret Jack Straw's association with Blackburn.
But Blackburn's mayor was dismissive. 'We only agreed to twin with Abbottabad as a second choice when our link with Prek Sbauv, a pretty Cambodian village, was severed by Pol Pot,' he said.
