And the inevitable 'Murray blames ankle injury for shock defeat.'

A little premature?

Possibly, I did post this when he was 40-0 up when serving for the match in the final set. He’s since beaten Tsonga though…

Is he British at the moment then?

They're the rules Jeni - he's British until he gets beat, then he's Scottish. If he gets caught sleeping with his brother's girlfriend then he's Welsh.
I agree with OllieP that he may as well give up, but am posting it above him, just to confuse matters.

I keep meaning to do something about Andy Murray to put his abject failure into perspective. The perennially embarassing Scot is indeed as rubbish as everyone argues. After all, of the 6,924,598,992 who currently live on the planet, he can only beat 6,924,598,989 of them at tennis. He may as well give up.........

I must concur Ollie, I personally find all the Andy Murray bashing a little hard to take – given he’s been in three GS finals (losing only to Federer* and Djokovic** when they were both in inspired form), has reached as high as No2 in the world and already won more tournaments of all levels than either Tim Henman or Greg Rusedski did in their entire careers.
Still, it’s a running ‘gag’ so hey.
*possibly the greatest player of all time
**who then carried that form on to an incredible unbeaten in which he laid waste to everyone including Federer and Nadal on his favourite surfacePosted 1 year ago # -
It's nothing against you Qoxiivi as I am admirer of your work. And I agree it is a gag most people will whole-heartedly agree with. Shame.
Sometimes I wish other sports got the same profile, like squash, but then we'd just run them down for being rubbish too.
And VCG, you'd better watch out! Two can play that game, but for the sake of latecomers to the thread I will refrain from amending my first post. Consider it a draw.

We don't like successful sportsmen in this country, we like heroic losers. The tabloids pretend to be behind whatever of our sporting personalities/teams are currently in high profile action but you can tell as soon as they lose that they've just been waiting to put the boot in.

Quite right. We prefer our beloved Tim Henman to ride a wave of national hysteria on his way to losing in the Quarter-Final every bloody year to this jumped up Scottish nerk actually winning titles.
It goes against the grain when a Briton actually beats the world at something.
