A French racehorse has won Derby in a bet.
The East Midlands city will be formally handed over to Pour Moi, a three-year-old gelding, in a ceremony this afternoon.
The horse’s press spokesman has told Derby’s 233,000 residents there will be big changes.
“Clearly there are challenges ahead as this proud community passes into French control,” said the spokesman.
“We fully accept that it will be difficult for local people to suddenly enjoy good food, appreciate art and culture and, most of all, become great lovers.
“The city’s soccer stadium, Pride Park, will be closed and the pitch given over to garlic production. Commuters will be obliged to cycle to work wearing stripy T-shirts and carrying strings of onions around their necks.
“Finally, we will be opening a new research institute dedicated to eradicating tired racial stereotyping.”
