The BBC news story 'Three quarters of UK workers half an hour from work' has already been given the dullest news story this millenium award.
'We realise we may have gone a little early with this,' explained the head of the award panel, 'but it seems extremely unlikely anything less interesting than this will ever make it to print.'
Ironically the gentleman that wrote the article actually lives 32 minutes from his place of work. Madness.
This staggering piece of news had somehow passed me by.
I think it is more interesting when you read between the lines and see the real message that there are a lot of people at the Office for National Statistics with fuck all to do, desperate to cling onto their jobs by making work for themselves doing pointless studies.
I live about an hour from work. Perhaps a bit more. Depends on the trains really. I mean, it can take quite a lot longer if I just miss a train and then have to wait half an hour for the next one but I’ve got quite good at timing them now so an hour seems about right.
It would definitely be jumping the gun to give it the award just yet, another pointless study might well come along and top it.
I remember one reported during a world cup where somebody had "researched" the best way to take a penalty. They came to the conclusion that to give yourself the best chance of scoring you should hit it hard into the top corner. No shit sherlock. And that got reported as news.

Isn't the best way to take a penalty to pause in the run up? Then when the goalkeeper is sprawling on one side of the goal you kick it into the other.
I believe this is called cheating but, on the odd occasion I've watched the game, the referees don't seem to mind.
p.s. I live 38 minutes from work, if I walk it.

I live at work. So bang goes that theory. But the statement 'three quarters of UK workers half an hour from work' seems to suggest that 3/4 of British workers are permanently stuck in limbo, exactly 30 minutes from their work-place; this can't be right. Surely some must move at some point and be 29 minutes and 59 seconds from their place of work? Or are they suggesting that this is some form of one of Zeno's paradoxes, wherein the worker, at any given point on the journey, is still not at work, but on his/her way there? I'm confused. Must go and do some work - oh, bugger.
