A local newspaper was denied a front page exclusive this week after a group of youths declared that they had 'lots to do' and said they 'didn't really need' a skatepark.
'Something's very wrong' said Barry Andy, editor of the Scarborough Herald. 'Skatepark stories have got us through a lot of lean news weeks. It's the age old fable - kids get together, council doesn't know what they're talking about, six years later there's a shitty ramp in the corner of the ASDA car park. This is classic local news, but the kids round here aren't playing ball.'
NUJ officials are said to be 'disgusted' at what they say amounts to gross neglect of local journalists, and in an unprecedented move Scarborough Herald reporters have voted to boycott any youth-related stories until a group of young people can muster a skatepark campaign.
