Lawyers acting for the footballer seeking anonymity have started legal action against the BBC following their coverage of last Saturday’s football. A representative of the legal firm acting on behalf of the footballer said that despite court orders for anonymity, the BBC had not only show the individual running around the football field but their commentators had referred to him by name on several occasions, identifying the individual to everybody watching the television coverage. Such blatant disregard for court orders preventing the individual from being identified constitute contempt of court and, if found guilty, could result in a prison sentence for the BBC.
In further legal moves, the legal group has included the player’s own football club in their action as the club had apparently printed the individual’s name in their program and published it (along with other team members) on the internet prior to the game.
