The disgraced head of the IMF, Dominique Strauss-Kahn, is said to be ‘quietly optimistic’ about his chances of wriggling off a rape charge after hiring UK Justice Secretary Ken Clarke as his defence barrister.
‘I was impressed with Mr Clarke’s sensitive and persuasive argument that there is serious rape and then there is rape,’ said Strauss-Kahn from his Riker’s Island jail cell today. ‘People have all too easily fallen into the trap of thinking that all rape is serious, and it’s exactly that sort of simplistic view of the world that needs to be challenged.’
Mr Clarke is already said to be working on his closing speech to the jury in which he will argue that there are different types of guilty.
