Today, I went round to see my mate Pete P the engineer, to get a few mm machined off some aluminium packing blocks.
Pete is a great guy & a good engineer, but there is always a “situation” going on.
Today he was Fulminating about having been bumped for £6k for a rush job that he had done which was on the floor of the workshop.
I had noticed, on the way in, this large curious looking device, it seemed to consist of 2 large steel discs with 4 smaller eccentrically mounted discs mounted between, attached to a planetary gear arrangement with lots of cogs on the outside.
I could not determine by observation, the function of the device, so eventually I said to Pete “Is this customer an inventor” Yes he said “it is an Alpha Omega Gravity Motor”
Apparently, the said inventor placed the order urgently & then had called in with several of his “financial backers” & offered £2k, which was well below Pete’s costs. So Pete threw them out……
I had to bite my lip, not wishing to express mirth at the …er… Gravity of the situation.
Eventually I got out of Pete, that a Guy in Wells, Somerset had built a prototype of the AOGM (or should it be OMG) from some bits of an old washing machine. So I googled it & sure enough, the papers had been full of it, There is a link to the prototype on youtube
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ZRfM0M4wcw&feature=related.
It is so funny, there is not even a Narrative, apparently this guy has even tried to convince engineers at the patent office that this mad scheme has validity.
They would have had to admit to its originality, but when it came to the “claims” part, perhaps they said that “Albert, who used to check these things, has sadly expired”.
I also looked at related videos, there are loads. So many cranks around.
There was one, which appeared to work, of spinning ball bearings mounted in an elegant wooden frame. I couldn’t help but post the comment that “indeed it looks a miracle, but was a certain person from Nazareth involved with the carpentry?”
I am not knocking inventors; indeed I am always doing things in the shed myself.
I can recently lay claim to my “Acme” telescopic weed sprayer for the back of the Quad bike. Or the Mark 3 ground levelling device to fit on my mini tractor.
(My wife makes Transfer labels to stick on things for me).
Sometimes, things I make, might be useful to others, like my bumpsteer Laser checking device which has been popular on youtube. Other things are best forgotten.
The only value in Cranky ideas like AOGM is in their humour.
It is a pity my mate Pete has had to come down to earth with a bump. (Again)
I suggested to him, he put it on eBay, to recover some of his costs. But how would you describe it?
Antigravity Device…. Never used, or only used once, still running.
Collect only, weighs 200kg.
Checkout the video & related ones & enjoy.
