...but it made me laugh, so I'm retelling it; Elton John has announced that he will be releasing a tribute song for Osama Bin Laden, he's going to call it "Sandals in the Bin".
I imagine a few people have heard this one already...

looks like a NiB waiting to be written there Jeni - and luckily it is proven that you have the talent to do so - but do you have the time?
Not only am I recovering from the weekend which was the longest I've ever spent not entirely sober, but some bunch of Academic bastards expect me to write an essay on Criminal law, and a portfolio discussing the use of subtle racism by the media when discussing crime, AND study for my two least favourite subjects.
I think that criminals who cry "subtle racism" probably smell funny.
I tend to agree Rikkor, but once I've passed that particular module, I shall be forced to defend the right of every dodgy smelling criminal from any racism, subtle or otherwise.
It's all the white folk's fault...
Any chance of an example of 'subtle racism' please Jen ? I think it's important to know what to listen out for so I can 'educate' complete strangers who are having a private conversation at the bar.Ta.
Was having a pint with a 'black' chap called Russ yesterday. He said to me: When was the last time your legs saw the sun ? I said: Summer 1976.I tend to look like a neopolitan ice cream if I take the sun.He was chuckling away for ages at that.I told him he was racist and he told me to fuck off.So we had another pint..or two and discussed Osama and the 'Ultimate Fish Pedicure'.
Simply done Salty.
Anything in The Daily Mail is blatant, but The Times and Telegraph are subtle.
An example would be: "White Youths Stabbed By Marauding Gangs of Romanian Immigrants" would be The Daily Mail's take, while the other two would say; "Two Youths Stabbed In Gang Attack: Two young men were last night stabbed in what police have described as a vicious attack by a group of young men, believed to be of Romanian origin..."
It's all very sneaky.
The Guardian/Independent also do it; 'Asian youth beaten by white gang' was one from a few years back (early 90's). Reading beyond the headline, the 'white' gang had a couple of mixed-race members and were after the Asian guy's Rolex, and the beating was partially a result of his putting up a fight. Journalists! If they were any better at manipulating perceptions, they'd be lawyers. ☺
Salty; that reminds me of a conversation I had with an hersute young Greek colleague:
"Why your legs not hairy like mine?" "in a word Geogios; Evolution"
Was that racist?
Gorgeous is spelt like that. There's no accounting for taste.
