Marlboro has won the dress sponsorship deal for the royal wedding, after lawyers found there was no ban on tobacco advertising in Royal Weddings.
Benson and Hedges and Silk Cut executives are said to be 'disappointed' with the choice of Marlboro for the prime advertising slot on the back of Kate's frock. 'We would have created a much subtler blend of advertising that complemented ther outfit,' said a creative who prepared the Silk Cut bid, 'I can't help thinking, and this isn't sour grapes, that the Marlboro logo will clash with the white lace creation that Kate is likely to wear.'
Nonsense, countered a senior Marlboro executive. 'We just don't like winners in this country do we?'
