I sometimes wonder whether the right country got independence in 1776.

' Throne Up ' your Royal Wedding sick bags now available from the States.
Sorry all, unable to post the photo..too dumb.
Edit;Bag is actually from a British illustrator [hurrah] named Lydia Leith available from her website at £3.00.

How much do you reckon we could get for flogging the totals to the states?
Posted 9 years ago # -
Perhaps you'd like to be a subject and not a citizen, Rik?
And have to pay for it?
Posted 9 years ago # -
Well I'm half American, so I'll manage 'God Bless Prince'.
Posted 9 years ago # -
Rikkor, you americans are very welcome to rejoin the British Empire as long as you swear allegiance to the monarch and pay the back taxes you owe since 1776

I admire the royal family for the slow dissolution, via marrying increasingly common people.

Saltire, very encouraged to hear that anyone in Britain is considering dental work. Could start a trend.

@ gaijuntendo: The family had an injection of muggle blood a while back which is why Prince Harry has thick ginger hair. This was designed to combat the early on-set male paten baldness gene running through the in-breds.
It's all good for the economy, especially if you sell party tat.
Hoorah, and God save the Queen.Posted 9 years ago # -
You are making a couple of assumptions here, firstly that God exists, for which there is little real evidence, and that anyone in Britain actually gives a f**k about the royal wedding, for which there is even less.

Well I was running the bar at our street party and we all had a great time. It meant we weren't exposed to all the media coverage (although I did see the vows being exchanged), and we could focus on ensuring there was no Rebellion IPA left over. Perhaps not the most appropriate beer for a royal wedding street party, but it went down very nicely.

I had a few pints of "RoyAle Wedding" down yer in Dorset. Nice fruity drop.
I did watch the edited highlights on match of the day later on with a bottle of homework. Did anyone else notice a stray riderless horse leaping about with not a comment?Posted 9 years ago # -
@Jeff. I would say no evidence re God at all but clear documented evidence of a few million brits enjoying the wedding. Makes you feel proud etc.

oh and Rik, its the Duke and Dutchess of Cambridge to you. How do you spell genuflect?
Posted 9 years ago # -
BJ, how do you spell 'Duchess'? ☺
Posted 9 years ago # -
I think he meant Dutchess County, in New York.
Posted 9 years ago # -
Sorry, I thought the Americal spelling was Dutchess. I meant to say Baroness.
Posted 9 years ago # -
Americal?
Posted 9 years ago # -
Yes, it's an Independence Day thing - we gave up the old Imperial measurements and went Americal a while back.
Funny that our Kate couldn't have legally worn that veil if the wedding was in Paris.
No, not funny, what is the word...?Posted 9 years ago # -
Westy, when I saw Kate enter the Abbey, I said to myself "Oh, my! It must be chilly in there."

This is us doing our bit for the cause. ie having a party.

Don't ask me about the morals / politics of having a hereditary sexist and religionist Royal family because there's no way you can make a rational argument for it.
In pragmatic terms though,I thought it was a magnificent occasion and made this gnarled old cynic genuinely proud of our great nation, as well as very happy for the couple.
So... for once I'm happy to set aside all logic and wave a flag with the best of 'em!
