Jet-skiers were yesterday given a police warning after a pod of dolphins was "harassed" while swimming off the Dorset coast.
Local fisherman, Tom Bunting, reported the jet skiers after seeing one of them bare his buttocks in a deliberate attempt to embarrass members of the pod, who it is believed were in Dorset to take advantage of the extended bank holiday break.
The dolphins were in Durlston Bay, Swanage, on Saturday afternoon when jet-skis and power boats were spotted chasing them. 'After I saw the first lewd gesture,' said Tom, 56, 'I used my boat to get a little closer and I could hear the propeller crafted hooligans swearing and using offensive language. They were saying things like 'Your mum's a fat cow' and calling them 'Big nose'. It was quite upsetting'.
HM Coastguard warned it was an offence to harass marine animals.
