With the royal wedding at the end of this month, it seems only right that we come together as a nation to celebrate another match made in heaven, that of previous Writer of the Month winners Des Custard and Stan Laurel. The happy couple only started writing together in earnest this month, but secured seven excellent front pages and two news-in-briefs, including the zeitgeist-capturing ‘Professor Brian Cox wins Face-You-Would-Most-Like-To-Slap Award’. Some tacky china memorabilia will be presented to the bridegroom and bridegroom at a civil ceremony to be shown live on BBC3 on 29 April.
Congratulations also to two returning big guns, SuburbanDad and jp1885, who both scored three front page stories in March, and to The Paper Ostrich, darkbill and OllieP who all bagged a brace. And thanks to everyone who made the front page, news-in-brief or ticker last month, or simply contributed material in the Writers’ Room.
A special mention also to red, our in-house picture-tampering wizard, whose consistently brilliant illustrations have earned him a fortnight’s leave. We say this only to warn readers that during the next two weeks they might see a marked drop in the number of vajazzled Thunderbirds, party manifestos dressed up as cigarette packets and grainy footage from BrideBangers.com.
