Nick Clegg today announced that there will be a referendum on the type of voting system people want in the AV referendum.
He said: 'At the moment, you can either vote Yes or, if you're particularly stupid, No, in the AV referendum. But that doesn't give people any other choices! Suppose they want to say "Well, Nick, it's a great idea, and of course I'm all in favour of it, but I've got an even more complicated system to ensure that we get a Lib Dem government". Or they want to vote Yes and make sure that the No votes aren't counted, which is true for everyone in the country except that idiot Cameron don't quote me.'
'So we're going to ask people how they want to vote in the referendum on voting. That referendum will take place next week, and then we'll announce the result the day before the referendum, so that no-one's got time to take it in, and in the ensuing chaos AV will triumph.
'Our favoured option so far for the actual referendum and not the voting referendum beforehand is STNV, which is the Single Transferable No Vote, whereby anyone who votes No is deemed to have voted Yes. Sounds fair to me.'
