Oh. My. Word.
WOOOOOHOOOOO!!!! So, so, so happy!!! Halfway to my dream final, just need Raith to stuff the Arabs and I'm all the road!
Get it right up ye Celtic!!!
they'll need to fix the roadworks in the pedestrian precinct for the open-top bus to get through *worry worry*
Congratulations to Ross County for whatever they've achieved in whatever arena they operate in - way to go!
Is this football related by any chance?
It is indeed. It was the Scottish Cup semi-final today and the "mighty" Celtic just got their arses well and truly kicked by tiny little Ross County.
Tomorrow, Dundee United (one of the two senior clubs in my home town) play Raith Rovers, another small club, from Kirkcaldy.
I loathe Dundee United with the same passion as I love Dundee FC, have family from Kirkcaldy, and I'm hoping for a Raith v Ross County final.
So, so, so delighted to see one of the bully boys of Scottish football punted.
HA!
Yes indeedy. Thanks AJ, we don't get much in the way of glory here in Dingly Dell (Dingwall), but the place is very proud of the football team who are dwarfed even by Inverness Caley Thistle twelve miles away, never mind anyone else. The shop windows are full of posters, scarves, good luck messages etc and my son who has a holiday job in the butchers,is in all of the Scottish papers holding a tray of 'Staggie burgers' - the team's nickname is the Staggies as the logo is a stag...am I going on a bit? Apologies...
Apologise not, Stunts. Brilliant result - even though my late dad was a Celtic fan. Let's hear it for Ross and indeed, Cromarty.
awww. You get awful nice folk on here. x
Well good luck in the final, and as my Dad was born in Ross - although admittedly the Ross several hundred miles away, of the "-on-Wye" variety - I shall still choose to support Ross County in their future endeavours.
Up the Staggies!
(Is that the correct parlance? Bit unsure, as I happen to follow a proper sport normally.)
Me too, AJ. Watching the world curling semi-final on Eurosport as we speak. But yeah, Up the Staggies!
And any Ross is a good Ross.
Mr B had a copy of The Sun for the Grand National form pages, so I snaffled it to play "Spot Young Stunts", and I did!
He looks like a taller, male version of you, Stunts. x
Aw, I will take that as the compliment you intend, my love xx He's a bit gorgeous, isn't he?!
You know, it was a bit special, tonight, in town. A beautiful, mild, clear night, first since, oh, July last year. There are cars cruising around, flying flags and scarves out of their windows. It's like Buenos Aires on World Cup week, only smaller, colder, lesser. The last coaches are just pulling in with the jubilant, knackered supporters. Men in kilts with dark red faces, who obviously paused for a sherry on the way north. A young boy with RCFC shaved into the back of his head...
My favourite, in Tesco, was the very refreshed man in the County shirt, fresh up the A9 from the game, with both a County AND a Celtic scarf wrapped around his neck.
The world is lovely.
I will bear Young Stunts in mind for when the Mrs Robinson in me becomes too strong to resist, as he is rather fresh-faced and yummy. (In a cyber-auntie, non-sexually threatening way.)
I think all of Scotland beyond the Glasgow area is rejoicing tonight. A truly fantastic result, and in the parlance of football commentary, a real David and Goliath story.
Fab story about the lubricated gentleman wearing both scarves, although he might have confiscated it from the 'tic supporter in a bid to stop him committing suicide by hanging himself with his scarf.
I hope you'll join me in cheering on Raith tomorrow, so that we can have a fantastic final with two of the smaller clubs achieving what the big boys didn't.
(Although just wait for the excuses as to how the SPL teams were concentrating on their league games rather than cup games.)
I will raise a glass to the RCFC tonight.
If young master stunts ends up with a platinum blonde stunna with the coolest writing head on the board then I will consider my work done.
Anyhoo, I will totally cheer Raith Random Rovers on tomorrow in your honour, and if it's a Ross/Raith final, then I think we ought to give some thought to a Newsbiscuit Box.
If that isn't rude.
Or even if it is.
Do they have football in Scotland? I learn so much here.
We do Maz, but we still play with pigs bladders and if there are no serious injuries or death by full-time, we keep playing until there are. And then it goes to sudden death, literally.
Stunts m'lovely, have already mooted the idea of a trip to the great Satan that is Glasgow for that final. An NB Box sounds fab. Like one of those "Variety Selection" or "Family Favourites" boxes of biscuits that Gran's always have for first-footers coming round. You know the ones, by the time they're offered, there's only ever some soggy Rich Teas left and Granny has tell tale Jammy Dodger crumbs stuck in her dentures. (Any similarity to NB contributors is entirely coincidental).
I'm afraid though that as of today the platinum is no more. Using all the experience and knowledge gained in an NC Media Studies Advertising Analysis module, I fell hook, line and easy to use applicator for a colourant advertised on TV. Mr B was most disappointed that after using it I didn't emerge from the en-suite transformed into Claudia Schiffer as the advert inferred, but came out with a "Light Honey Blonde" mop instead.
Oh well. I didn't really want to be a 5'10" German supermodel with a squint anyway. (Not to mention a highly dubious taste in men. I mean, David Copperfield? What was she thinking?!)
Sad to see Raith Rovers getting thumped by United today, Jeni. We are going to have to leave it to Ross County to stuff the Arabs(to borrow your elegant phrase) in the final.
Do it for Jeni, lads...
Okay, that'll be your far north sports correspondent signing off. Be careful out there.
Cabin doors to manual, and cross check.
Ah, t'was sad indeed. One of my cousins drove all the way up from Nantwich this morning for the match. It'll be a long, sad drive home for him.
It will be an honour to support the Staggies at the final, especially as they wear the same colours as Dundee FC.
Prepare for take-off.
Well done. Must have been brilliant.
To be fair, that Celtic lot seemed a bit overawed and they probably froze on the day.
One thing: On telly they said the entire town was at the game.
I can't believe the local house breakers took the day off, surely. That would be madness. Doesn't anyone want to work in this country any more?
I know; missed opportunity. And with 7500 at the game from a town with a population of 5000, maybe there's a secret cavern where the closet supporters hide. Under the Pound Shop, maybe.
All together now: 'lollipops...'
