Yes, the French are next up at the United Nations to answer a charge of 'failing to conform to national stereotype' by kicking things off.

Their case will be heard by a pompous, tightlipped Englishman, a clipped, unsmiling German, a sleepy Spaniard, and an anonymous Belgian with the Italian representative failing to arrive as he slept in. With the Swedish rep. Sorry, Swedish reps (twins).

According to the fount of all knowledge, Sir Stephen Fry of the Sacred Order of Quintessential Englishmen, the French have been exceptionally good at starting wars, and rather good at losing them too.

I thought Fry's point on QI was the French had the greatest win-ratio, which was a little surprising.

I cannot remember if it was per-battle or per-war, for as we all know, you can lose a battle for the want of a horseshoe nail whilst war has no winners, only losers, metaphorically speaking.
