   If so, you might be interested in this, a competition from BBC Radio 2 to find new talent in standing up.

   Apparently to prove that not collapsing to the floor in a heap is something you can do effortlessly, you have to record yourself nonchalantly telling jokes for the duration, but I'd imagine that for anyone on here that'd be no bother.

   How they can tell somebody isn't lying prone on the floor while they're recording their audio CD is beyond me. Maybe the technology can pick up the muffling effects of a carpet, maybe it's because it's the BBC and they can't imagine anyone would cheat in a competition.

   I see what you did there, using 'erect' both to describe remaining upright while giving a comedy performance and at the same time alluding to an engorged penis. Very well done!

   I think you should apply for this comedy competition yourself.

   Neeeeeaaaal!

   A few years ago I went to an Inverness pub to hear our latest crop of stand-up talent. Most entertaining, by far, was the guy whose every gag fell flat, but was followed up by kindly advice to us all along the lines of 'you've got to think about that one,' or 'that one went better at the last place'...runner-up was the wifie in fake fright teeth whose killer gag was about the Opal Fruit in the back of her cupboard.

   Worst thing for me was the pity I felt for them, the pressure to smile encouragingly, to pretend to be having a good time...

   ...if I'd wanted an evening of faking it I could just have...anyway Neal, good to hear from ya x

   Morning Stunts! Still looking fabulous in that mushroom tone only some of us have the élan to pull off, I see.

   I reckon that flailing stand-up you saw could probably have used those follow-up lines in...other situations... too.

   And Rick O'R, managing 45 seconds is pretty good on Paddy's Day. Makes me proud to be part of the world's vaguely Irish community.
