Following a successful trial of the “Curry Breakfast” variety in Cheshire, Supermarket giant Tesco announced today that it is rolling out its new range of “Lonely Meals” across all its stores.
A report in The Grocer magazine explains that the range of microwavable meals-for-one is aimed at single people who simply cannot face the idea of cooking for just themselves, day after day. The range, originally launched under the “Sad Bastard” brand, saw an initially high take-up but sales quickly dropped away.
A spokesman for Tesco’s own brand ready meals explained that they had been excited about the launch with the "Christmas-dinner-for-one" but sales in January had slumped dramatically. A review of club card activity revealed unseasonably high levels of customer mortality. The newly marketed range has being re-packaged to carry contact details for the Samaritans and is seen more as a cry for help.
The brand is expected to be included within the “Great Nights In” promotion bundled with a 4-pack of Special Brew a copy of Nuts magazine and a box of man-size tissues.
Retail analysts point out that there is more profit to be made from this market than the “Smug Meals” for two brand and that, with the addition of weapons-grade garlic, they fully expect the Lonely Meals brand to retain its market.

Any recipe suggestions for Singletons? Non-sharing platters, Pre-cooked-and-left-in-the-fridge Pizza. Heinz re-fried baked beans.

Simply super 5*. They must do a "Johnny No-Mates Pot Noodles" line.

Cheshire? That's a coincidence, I live in Cheshire.
Perhaps these sad people should get together. They could set up a club, or even a webpage ...
5* of course.

Confession: I lived in Cheshire, and not the nice bit, for 10 years before returning to darkest Dorset. Never going north of the A303 ever again.
Like the idea of Johnny-no-mates noodles. How about Ginsters Spotty-Herbert slices.Posted 2 years ago # -
