A monarchist backed the monarchy despite recent Princely financial and sexual scandals. The monarchist said he had full confidence in the monarchy and it should continue lording it up over the oiks who are too common to understand these things.

Two words to consider if you would like to abolish the Monarchy....President Blair.

ah the head of state gig is ceremonial, handing out medals, tea parties.
blair would want the executive.
monarchy is a form of apartheid. To make yourself 'royal' you have to adopt a language that makes others 'common'. Some like role gaming. it gives them a sense of purpose to doff caps.
but we musn't be allowed to choose our own head of state. because we are oiks.
do you think an elected person would still be in office after taking money from a convicted pedo?
british troops are fighting and dying to give afghanistan a greater level of democracy than we have. are we less than afghans?

But we do.. we dumped the 'divine right of kings' back in 1688 and we now have a constitutional monarch who doesn't (NB can't?) intervene in political issues, except in extreme circumstances. Power is devolved to the prime Minister and the Cabinet, who are elected by us.
do you think an elected person would still be in office after taking money from a convicted pedo?
oh, hello Silvio. All a plot, plotters, plotting your downfall, isn't it?Posted 2 years ago # -
silvio? hahaha.
i have never been asked who i want as head of state? is this a 400 year thing? who decided that?
if its a meaningless post then it doesn't matter if its elected? if role gamers want to stand then they can go on the ballot with screaming lord such?
monarchy is a form of apartheid. curious to see people defending that. or maybe not? alf garnett would.

I assume by 'people' you mean me, so I'll respond.
1. Just on the pure debate level, you assume I agree with your statement about monarchy equalling a form of apartheid. I don't. Apartheid, however you choose to define it, implies a segregation along racial lines; the domination of one racial group over another. There is no race element here, so *poo* to a literal interpretation. On a metaphorical level, you may be right in that the nature of a monarchy implies there must be one ('mon'-), and that everyone else is somehow not in charge. But that's what a monarchy is?
2. Yes it is a 400 year old thing. People who call for a Republic, or to abolish the monarchy (please note: constitutional, not absolute) are ignoring both history and the status quo; for all its flaws (and its cost to the taxpayer) the evidence is that on balance it works, and it isn't as expensive as other systems. Overthrow of a sitting monarch is rarely bloodless and often involves huge instability and vulnerability for the country for many years.
For the record, I am in no way a monarchist, just a realist. For the record, I think this family are a bit of a poor advert for Britain, and often fail to understand their subjects. And are idiots.
Oh ps, please define 'role gamers', you've lost me on that one...

Perchance Mr Dunkin is "down wiv da yoof" in his role gamers?

If we had a President, would we have 'Trooping the Special Advisers' and 'The Changing of the Spin Doctors'?

How about a '21 Memo Salute'?

a monarchy has to set up an artificial discrimination between those who are to be called lords and those who are not. this creates an apartheid style language which may or may not be racial. Let us call it social apartheid so that it covers what i am describing which i think you understand. It is the essence of division in uk society. if you watch how they do it it is through being very rude and name calling. lackey, skivvy, etc are terms of what? abuse. Monarchists have to be to 'keep people in their place'. any rude monarchists come to mind?
monarchy is by nature anti democracy. it is anti human rights because it demands people act in a certain way that others don't. it is anti equality.
rolegaming
lets pretend i am king and now i say you are not. i claim sovereignty over your sovereignty [the seed germ of imperialism]. you must now play my game that when i come into a room you must bow. if you don't you are considered rude. if you challenge my position you are a criminal under treason laws. the national oath is not an oath to defend the rights of the people but to defend my position. the national anthem is not a song about the people or land but a glorification of me. I wear robes and call myself and my friends by fancy titles and i hand out medals to my friends and family. we say we have been ordained by god and that hereditary of my genes is the only qualification for the top role.
these are all invented rules.
a game is a system of invented rules. one you act out is a role game. Dressing up is part of it [the queen calls her robes etc 'the props']. Monarchy is a role game we are forced to play if we like it or not.
if people want to play role games fine but people should not be forced to play it nor should the nation's head of state be privatised out to a specific white christian protestant sect rolegame? to even suggest that someone else be head of state is against uk treason laws [which relate to the role of the monarchy not to the british people]. so the laws are anti free speech too.
there is a lot more but this probably isn't the place but its clear some role gamers can't stand people making fun of them and pointing out all they are are role gamers?
someone once joked that the english are the last people colonised by the imperialism but they don't know it [unlike wales, scotland etc.]. the uk is still under the occupation of the norman monarchy model.

Dun - this only works as a stand-up rant routine if you adopt an Alexei Sayle accent. Your original post was OK, why go into lengthy perorations, just because someone says "President Blair"? This is supposedly a comedy/satire site. Why waste people's time?
