Pressure is mounting on Prince Andrew to resign his traditional post of 'scapegoat for the royal family' amid claims he is "too good at his job".
A spokesperson for Buckingham Palace explained that since 1996 the prince has held the post of royal idiot, having taken over from his father. The scapegoat position is largely honorific and usually involves making foolish and inappropriate comments in public, in order to fulfil the twin aims of a) making the royal family more interesting and b) providing 'cover' for any real cock-ups made by Her Majesty
However a series of leaked emails suggest that Andrew has taken the role far too seriously, and has gone beyond a bit of racist banter, and actually started meeting dodgy people, (ie not just his own relatives).
As the row continues over whether the foolish antics of the royals can be weighed against the tourism revenue and sales of Hello! that they generate, it has been suggested that Andrew step down in favour of Harry, who has already established an excellent track-record of stupid foot-in-mouth gaffes and inappropriate girlfriends.
