Speculation around the origins of E&J Gallo’s wine empire has finally been laid to rest just a few years after the untimely death of Ernest Gallo, aged 97.
Throughout their long careers it has always been assumed that they callously murdered both their parents. However Fresco county records show that their father, Joseph, uncharacteristically shot his wife, Suzie, before shooting himself. As a tribute the brothers hurriedly set about spending their inheritance on their first winery, just in time to exploit the end of prohibition.
