The Pope yesterday invited senior Catholics into his drawing room to announce that despite being 'not quite one of us and frankly rather common,' the butler wasn't the one who murdered Jesus. 'He wasn't even in the library when it happened and it turned out he didn't have a motive,' the pontiff explained. 'In fact,' he said, turning an accusing eye on the assembled cardinals, 'it was the religious aristocracy of the time, and we just forgot to pay attention to all the clues because those sort of people are generally such jolly decent chaps.'
