Childhood Trauma may have caused Colin Firth to become 'a lovie'. In an emotional interview, the suave, classically trained actor revealed that as a lad "...his
Scottish Nan would box his ears and send him home if he was "Naughtie".
At school, minor misdemannors resulted in "the Cane" or "the Slipper" or "a clip round the ear" and mention of this at home after school could result in "his Dad clattering him" for being "so bloody stupid".
As well as being hit by the school "toughy", other lads would gather round and spit on the fighters whilst shouting "fight, fight, fight" said an emotional Firth. A Teacher would come out to break up the fight and "clatter the fighters".
In the end such harsh treatment for a sensitive child proved to be his making. He gradually became a 'lovie' and his ability to do impressions of stammerers won him recognition and the plaudits of industry pundits.
"It's been a F-F-F-
Fairly long journey" said Firth (50).
