David Cameron today apologised abjectly for his complete failure to organise a drinks party in a brewery, and promised to learn lessons from it.
'In future,' he said, looking very serious, 'when this sort of situation arises again, we will react much more quickly.
'First, there will be an interdepartmental committee of enquiry to look at the feasibility of the whole situation from every perspective. That will report no later than six months after the first meeting, which I thnik shows how serious we are about these things.'
'After that, we won't do what the discredited Labout government did and appoint a so-called Czar. We shall appoint a Champion to gather all the information, to get together a cross-party committee and to produce a long-term strategy, complete with recommendations.
'That will then go immediately to the commons as a green paper for discussion. We have to remember these things are urgent!
'After that, I will bring people in to draft a white paper for public consultation.
'Then there will be the funerals of the people we didn't save, followed by a general election.'
