An angry mob who had gathered in the pouring rain to hear a speech from Col Gaddafi outside his palace in Libya received a lucky escape after a man leapt from the crowd and started to sing a medley of his 1960s chart hits.
Gadaffi, who was holding an umbrella and leaning out of a van at the time, was saved from the full force of the blast by quick thinking security forces who rammed fresh lumps of camel dung down his ears, just as the man was about to start on the chorus of his 1968 chart topper ‘Congratulations’ for the 92nd time.
The man - known to be a keen follower of brutal dictatorships and rain-hit events around the world - was lead away by two heavily armed guards, thought to be mercenaries from Serbia who were muttering something about ‘revenge for what you put our country through during those merciless Euro vision years’.
Witnesses told of hearing a blood curdling wail followed by pleas for mercy coming from a dungeon below the palace which was later confirmed as the man trying to hit the high notes in ‘Summer Holiday’ while prison guards sobbed uncontrollably, begging him to stop.
The Serbian guards mocked the man by boasting that their fascist German brothers had rigged the 1968 vote for their fascist Spanish brothers to win and that one day the winning entry ‘La La La’ would once again ring out across Europe as the fascist machine rose again as one, wiping out all pathetic attempts of resistance before it.
They did however both agree to quite liking the 1998 Israeli winning entry from Dana, even though she was a transsexual and should in all honesty have her heart ripped out by vultures and her head placed on a spike outside the city walls.
