A number of made-up words such as "knoob" and "cunut" are to be included in the government's planned new reading test for six-year-olds in Englang.
Non-words are being included to check that children are not just regurgitating memorised words, a spokesman for the Department for Education said. Education Minister Michael Gove said the new system had his full approval. ‘Non-words are being included to check that children are not just regurgitating memorised words,’ he said.
‘Reading can be very hard for a six-year-old,’ he added; ‘perhaps the family could consider moving to High Wycombe.’
