In an embarrassing climb-down, the case against Aldi foodstores crumbled yesterday. Insiders blame a combination of thick regional accents, and confusing 'trendy' new cake products for the gaffe.
John Havers for Aldi confirmed that a raid at the Yorkshire Depot saw 1500 of the cakes "stolen". Head Office re-supplied Yorkshire the next day.
This was reported to West Yorkshire Police who "initially seemed disinterested" and gave him a "crime number".
