Football fans showed their sensitive side with a spontaneous, Princess Diana style show of emotional incontinence, to mark the end of the broadcasting career of pundit Andy Gray.
They queued up in their thousands to lay flowers at the spot where man they called the Voice of Oafish Britain.
'He was the Prince of Our Hearts' said the message on one floral tribute, 'Ledge-end' said another. 'Tuck this down my trousers love' said another microphone shaped flower arrangement.
Andy Gray, the man who taught a nation how to analyse events in retrospect with an electronic highlighter pen and some dubbed on whooshing sounds, was cruelly cut cut last week, by unexplained dark forces.
In a memorial service, the last moments of Gray's career will be analysed by a shouty man with access to some sort of editing suite, who will play back key moments and draw diagrams on screen showing exactly where the pundit went wrong.
'If you mess around with microphones near your box, you're going to get punished,' said the pundit, in a rehearsal of the ceremony.
