A brand new escalator, apparently inspired by the drawings of famed graphic artist MC Escher, caused a stir at The Mall of Grand Rapids when revealed
“I mean, what’s the @&%king point?” an obviously perturbed Leon Brunson said. “I was on the thing for 3 hours while trying to get to the Orange Julius upstairs, and I wound up right where I started.”
The escalator, which took two years to construct from its original conception, features a series of interconnected conveyor belts which are designed to replicate Escher’s “impossible reality” series of drawings.
The escalator was commissioned by mall tenant Infinity Pools, Inc., which has its store at the base of the escalator. When contacted for comment, Infinity Pools President Hank Clay said only: “To quote Frank Lloyd Wright, ‘Form Follows
Many local residents, however, fail to see the aesthetic appeal of the escalator. “It’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen,” added Brunson, who at press time was still unable to locate the Orange Julius.
