   In recipes, a pinch. A pinch could be any size pretty much. Like a small handful, or a sprinkling. So vague.

   And as for a knob of butter...

   Yep, i'll agree with that. All vaguely romantic quantities are balls, and should only be used in voice-overs. Others include 'a smattering' and anything that might come of Jamie Oliver's coke-infested face.
