You never know what'll hit do you. I thought my one about China seeking music recommendations was my best but that sank without a trace.
What's interesting is seeing how the NB guys have substantially rewritten my article. It's like a comedy writing workshop, comparing your draft with their polished version. At first you feel rage at HOW DARE THEY CHANGE MY WRITING AND PUT MY NAME ON IT and so forth, but then you actually read it and you go "Hey this actually is better than my original" so it all works out ;)

Know the feeling. Nearly always the "correct" response is gratitude. For using it, and for spending time on what are nearly always improvements.
I reckon in this particular case they were keen to make it clear that it was "Western Ignorance", rather than "Funny Little Third World Countries" that was the comedic target.Some day (soon) you'll get an FP in verbatim. I guess then you'll know that the editors all had other things to do that night.
