A 'More Soon' as they're known (meaning 'no article coming, just a tagline'). There, I tagged it for you. And I quite agree. Some of those anthems just drag on and on with all their verses of peasant struggle and military might.

Verse two of our very own anthem (one of the many verses you never hear)...
O lord God arise,
Scatter our enemies,
And make them fall!
Confound their knavish tricks,
Confuse their politics,
On you our hopes we fix,
God save the Queen!Posted 2 years ago # -
Thanks Malgor, any more "tag only" stories I write, I'll put "more soon" in the body.

Doylem got it right. I love rhyming "arise" and "enemies". In the US, at least our national anthem is based on an obscure battle of an obscure war that no one knows anything about.
God Save the Queen
God save our gracious Queen,
Long live our noble Queen,
God save the Queen!
Send her victorious,
Happy and glorious,
Long to reign over us,
God save the Queen!O lord God arise,
Scatter our enemies,
And make them fall!
Confound their knavish tricks,
Confuse their politics,
On you our hopes we fix,
God save the Queen! Not in this land alone,
But be God's mercies known,
From shore to shore!
Lord make the nations see,
That men should brothers be,
And form one family,
The wide world ov'erFrom every latent foe,
From the assasins blow,
God save the Queen!
O'er her thine arm extend,
For Britain's sake defend,
Our mother, prince, and friend,
God save the Queen!Thy choicest gifts in store,
On her be pleased to pour,
Long may she reign!
May she defend our laws,
And ever give us cause,
To sing with heart and voice,
God save the Queen!Posted 2 years ago # -
And those unspeakable types in Liechtenstein should stop using our tune.

Countries should have little four or five note "ident" brand jingles like Intel or Danone. Or Channel 4 when it started.
