I find it more than odd that whatever all happened there, without complaints or being called to the spot, the puh-leese feel obliged to join the melée.

Yes the comments were very racist. Much sadder than the stuff that passes for racism on here.
One of them - I don't know if it was intending to be funny - started with "I'm in the military so I'm probably a bit sheltered from this but..." and went on to describe some horror story of a comrade who saw something similar when home on leave.
