I only saw the last half hour but can never resist an opportunity to insert tuppenceworth.
I think Amy stole it - couldn't take my eyes off her. My fourteen year old daughter watched it all and was pee'd off that he was 'trying too hard to be David Tennant'.
That'll be forty quid, please.

Liked it. Excellent script as anticipated (can't wait to hear what Jeni and Games and so on have to say about the Scottish fry-up jibe, haha) and Smith's good. A bit too frenetic but I have a feeling that's direction as much as anything. For me, Ecclestone had a capacity for a momentary pause that was far more powerful than any ammount of arm waving, gurning and squawking. Amelia Pond's a good foil ("excellent legs" says Mr Sauce, hrmph) although spotted the time miss a mile off. Kids were both engrossed and we almost didn't get any dinner as youngest had declared an intent to cook Jamie Oliver's meat balls but got distracted by DW.

Her went down well with the younger Laurels.
Personally, I preferred the non PC WPC uniform on that nice young Scottish girl.Posted 3 years ago # -
I enjoyed, Good script, Good Doctor...glam assistant... and excellent production values.

Is he a real Doctor ?? There was a St John Ambulance sticker on the door of the Tardis. So we've gone from a doctor to a first aider, is this the Time Lord equivalent of a Police Community Support Officer ?
He was probably better than we expected him to be anyway if that helps.

When are you on Maz?

Thanks chaps. I agree that young lass was very good, and not for the same reasons as Father Evans, whose interest in my critiquing career took a definite upturn when she appeared in her stockings. I liked the new Doc - I put the frantic nature of the delivery down to the script - Moffat is a writer who never quite hits the mark for me, but I think Mr Smith handled a tricky debut with great aplomb.

"Geek Chic?" Nice piece Maz.

Thanks Stanny. Glad you tuned in, which was more than Mr Mary and Father Evans managed, who couldn't quite tear themselves away from the F1 qualifying on the red button...

It was a wrench to retune from Jazz FM, but I like to support fellow NBs when they are in the media spotlight.
Seached in vain for Plucky on Casualty .... :)

I bloody loved Dr Who, though I am sad that he's so fugly *sighs* David Tennant is such a sexy man.
Not sure about Amelia Pond. I think it would be better if the Doctor's companion were older to offset his youth. Caroline Quentin would be perfect ;)

SHITSU!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!
Although perhaps the Doctor could then abandon her to make dire sitcoms on some other unfortunate planet. Surely somewhere in an infinite universe she must be funny...Posted 3 years ago # -
I thought it was good. She was gorgeous.

Caroline Cuntin has better legs though. Sorry Quentin.

Those who adore the new assistant and those who think Caroline Quentin would be a better assistant.
Both sides are catered for. The gorgeous young slim assistant, will look like Caroline Quentin in a few years time.
Every one's a winner. Not Michael Winner though, that'd be just unlucky.

Very pleased with how it came out. The brand new titles and theme tune (which some folks on t'net have reservations about) was, to me at least, a bold statement of intent and a break from the show's (recent) past. The occasional nods to McGann's TV movie also pointed to a reset from the Russell T Davies era.
The acting was second-to-none, the monster quite threatening (though perhaps the CGI betrayed the much-publicised budget cuts), and the story entertaining enough in it's own right, rather than solely an introduction to the 11th Doctor.
Matt's characterisation of the Doctor was spot on - juvenile yet commanding; ancient and wise yet mad as a sack of spaniels. Loved the Evil Dead tribute as we got to see the Doc's cognative process as he scanned through his memories and impressions after his mad dash through the village green.
Karen's take on the new companion was ballsy yet - okay - my wife is out of the room now.... Amy Pond - fwoar!

Unfortunately I can't give a balanced opinion on the new Doctor as I missed it cos I was hiding behind the sofa.

Have to say in defence of Moffat that he's the reason I don't write anything! Press Gang still fills my heart and Blink was the best episode of Dr Who by this much *stretches arms out wide*

Have to agree with most of the comments and I'm heartened to see no mention of the fact that Amy Pond is a ginger.
Apart from this one. Bugger.
She is surely what all red-heads have been hoping for - a positive role model after the poisonous Anne Robinson.
The only thing that let it down for me was the regeneration of the Tardis. When Smudger returned to it after saving the world, you could quite clearly see the grain of the wood used on the door.
And JP - be a man - surely Mrs 1885 could appreciate a fwoar for Amy.

Amelia Pond...an acronym ?
No boys, not an acronym for red head phwarr oh yeahPosted 3 years ago # -

She's like a ginger Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King all rolled into one. Soon us gingers will be allowed on buses with normal people and we might even get the vote.
That'll be the day

Phworrr indeed. Predictable that the minute the Beeb produces something good the Daily Mail tries to stir up controversy vizt. 'Is Dr Who's new assistant too sexy?' How about asking 'Is the editor of the Daily Mail the biggest c*nt ever to walk the planet?' instead?
I do note, however, that whoever the Doctor and his assistant are, her existing boyfriend is always an unmitigated berk. Is this because the programme is basically geek wish-fulfillment to the effect that you can get attractive womean and be a geek at the same time? Which isn't true as any fule kno.

I'm extremely attractive and my husband is a great big geek. Maybe it's just you, Oxymoron...
I saw that headline and I pity the DM readership. They are going to be in tremendous turmoil over whether to get more aroused by Ms Pond, or their newfound outrage towards her. Bunch of tossers.Posted 3 years ago # -
Daily Mail headline - "Is Dr Who to blame for the rise in Stranglewank deaths?"
