A Bolton man who is addicted to nicotine patches says he is dreading the new year when a week’s free trial of the parches – part of the NHS Smoking Quit Kt – will be available at many chemists for the first time on 1 January.
‘Just when I was about to make a resolution to give up the patches, this comes along,’ said Bert Biscoe (52). ‘I’ll be down at the chemist at midnight on New Year’s Eve. I’ll just binge on the free patches they’re so moreish.’
A NHS spokesman said Mr Biscoe should visit his doctor and request a year’s supply of cigarettes to help him quit the patches.
