A high ranking official in the Iranian Revolutionary Guard has been caught smuggling goods into southern Afghanistan confirmed NATO.
The guard, a member of an elite al-Quds commando unit, was detained whilst driving a rusting transit van across the border into Kandahar after customs officials noticed he was finding it difficult to stay awake at the wheel – and this despite the latest Flaming Lips album playing so loud on his stereo, it was attracting complaints from villages across Kazakhstan and Yemen.
The officials became suspicious after the guard claimed the van was not actually his and he had only been delivering a chest of drawers as a favour to his cousin in Mashhad.
A search of the van revealed the guard was carrying over 1500 Lambert & Butler King Size, a pack of adult themed playing cards, 3gm of Big Bud and ‘several smutty DVDs hidden in one of the side panels’ said a NATO spokesman.
A senior Afghan official hinted that apprehending the man was ‘a massive breakthrough and would seriously undermine the Taliban’s ability to spread terror in the region.
The playing cards will be a serious blow to them, now they will have to go back to flaying their prisoners alive when they get bored’.
This is not the first time Iran has been caught supplying Taliban insurgents. Earlier in the year a man herding a flock of sheep across the border was apprehended with over 20 pirate copies of Toy Story 3, thought to be en-route to the various terrorist groups scattered around the mountainous region.
