Posho Supermarket, Waitrose, have decided to buck the trend for speedier customer service and checkout and introduce new Chill-Out Checkouts at their stores.
The new checkouts are intended for use by the more tardy consumer who just hasn't quite mastered the art of speedy shopping, the joys of unexpected items in bagging area, or knows quite how they have ended up at the checkout in the first place.
A spokesman for Waitrose today explained, "Our survey revealed that many of our customer demographic just aren't prepared for the modern hussle and bussle of supermarket shopping, the noise of the checkouts, the self-scan area, being asked whether you have your own bags, just causes them confusion and dissaray."
Footage was then shown of Grandmother Mrs. G.Hubbard of slough taking almost 6 hours to do her shopping, and then not knowing whether she had bought her own bags or not, not being able to find her parking ticket for a refund, then counting out her copper collection in order to pay, and the final ignominy of not being able to decide which charity got her green token. It's understood she will be out of the priory in time for Christmas.
The Chill-out checkouts will have a seating area where shoppers can relax after a hard days shopping, tea and coffee will be sold, as well as some nice new(s)biscuits.
