I’m leaving the ‘Newsbiscuit Community’. I’ve only been here five minutes (as someone pointed out to me as some kind of argument clincher), so it’s no great loss... but if you ever wonder why people sign up here and leave soon after, I’ll tell you. When you try to join a group, you either get the feeling you’re welcome... or that you’re interrupting some important conversation. Inclusive/exclusive. The first thing anyone ‘said’ to me here were “cunt” and “fuck off”. Now there may be some parallel universe where this represents the cutting edge of comedy, but not the one I live in. It’s easy to hide behind a pseudonyn and say things we probably wouldn’t say to someone’s face.

I joined because I was a bit blocked with my writing, and the exercise of writing something off the top of my head - some ‘free association’ - seemed like a good way to start the day. And it’s worked! But, Christ, I’ve had some sour comments... merely for posting a few pieces each day, like everybody else, and making a few - generally positive - observations. The accumulative effect is quite bruising, so I’ve decided I can do without it. As for Gary/eggs, whatever... just breathing the same air as him makes me feel a bit queasy. Bye bye...

I would urge you to reconsider. Some of your stuff is genuinely funny, some isn't, but so what? Very few people can generate top quality humour all the time, and some of us (me included) struggle at any time to think of anything funny, ever. We all get flamed from time to time by people who think they're being 'shining wits', but that's what happens. You get used to it after a while. Perhaps you could consider letting an idea 'simmer' for a while before posting it? That way, you wouldn't irritate irascible old gits, yet those of us who appreciate your work can still get a laugh. By the by, you won't be the first person to be forced off of this site by hostile posters, and I don't mean arrghgarry; there were others before him.
    Turn again, Dick Whittington!

For what it's worth, I'd agree that there are some people here who have forgotten that this is a forum for trying ideas out and testing the water. They don't seem to understand objectivity. In some cases, these hyper-critics never even post their own material!

Before you go could you tell me what an area man is.

Gotta get past the steaming turds to get to the diamonds.

I know whose opinion on my work I measuremy success by. Don't give it up on here.

What would JO'F do in these circumstances?

just about everyone on here is a cunt, once you get past that, some of them are, reportedly, quite nice.
i dont believe it myself, cos im a cunt, but there you go, some cunts are nice cunts, some cunts are just cunts.
worse thing you can do is listen to the cunts who criticise your work, they are usually just cunts who cant write anything themselves, but feel qualified to be cunts about someone elses work.
dont worry that you arent funny or original, otherwise you wont be.
send a cheque for £50, payable to arthurminnit, and i will fuck garry up the arse with a horses cock for you.
    yours sincerely,
ann widdecombe, err, fuck, i mean arthurminnit.

As a rule in life keeping your diamonds in a pile of steaming turds is counterintuitive thing to do. But as my sainted Hungarian grandmother always used to say, nobody gets through life without having to wade nostril-deep in a river of human sewage to recover a lost florin, and her lost florin business made her rich. Admittedly she lost everything in Czarist railway bond investments, but the moral is clear: ignore the canutes and stay.

I agree with Ann..er...arthur ;) don't let the bitter egomaniacal wankers get you down. They're just depressed. And lonely probably. Try and feel some pity for them and you'll soon get over letting their dribble affect you. Writers forums are all the same it seems. Hey ho. Don't go.

Don't worry about the miserable cunts. They want you to stay too.

haven't you heard the old saying: "misery loves company"?

Hey mate...please stay...you are one of the good ones

I have felt the same at times

I agree that we need a more obvious way of reporting and removing hostile members.

surely we are here to help other members in their work, and anything said here that you wouldn't say to friends at work is not any use to us

Please can we bin the nastiness, rather than the talent....

Don't go, friend. Your LibDem-principles ticker was the best ticker I've seen, and there's obviously more where that came from.

We all need that talent. Stay, use a new pseudonym.

I suppose cos all my posts (or most anyway) I haven't been abused yet.
However, elsewhere I've copped flak, took the useful stuff onboard, ignored the bull, and kept going.
Only ever had a few tickers, never a NIB or FP, but there's some funny and witty company on here, and even though I'm no-where near up to standard, I watch, read , join in a bit and learn.
